A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

"For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in knowledge of God." (Colossians 1:9-10)

Prayer plays a central role in our journey of faith. Here at Holy Cross, relationships with God and each other have primary importance. A moment with God offers the opportunity to unite individuals with a relationship in Christ that provides strength for the faith journey.

In our vision statement, we say....”provide strength for the faith journey.” We could fill in the words before that with almost anything, i.e. money, love, attitudes, goals, drives, any of those. But for us, it is God who provides strength for the faith journey. When Isaac sees that nothing is brought for the sacrifice, he asks, “....where is the lamb?” Like Isaac, we look for the “evident”, the logical, the tangible. What Abraham offers us is something much more than that. Abraham offers us trust in God: “God himself will provide....” So the two walked on together.

Almighty God, you always provide whatever is needed, even to the gift of Your only Son. Give us the faith to trust you and your providing. That alone will give us the strength day by day in our journey of faith. This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen

Prayer Requests...

Through prayer, we draw together in relationship, lifting up and caring for others and ourselves. In our weekly bulletin, e-news, and on our website (below), prayer concerns are lifted up; prayers for our nation, government, community, and other institutions are placed in the hands of God. All prayer requests may be kept as confidential as the requestor would prefer. You may submit prayer request online, or by calling the church office at (847)367-4060 and speaking with the office or pastoral staff. If you would like to lift someone up in prayer or to remove a name from the prayer list, please email the church office staff at office@holycrosschurch.org.

 Prayer Corner...

The prayer room is a place where one or more individuals can retreat for a personal time with God or a time to share together in prayer. Located next to the nursery with a view to the sanctuary, this room is convenient for anyone to "drop in and pray". The prayer room is available at all times for anyone and everyone, and doubles as a cry room diruing worship services. Devotion books, children's books, and materials are available to assist anyone and everyone when thoughts seem too overwhelming and words seem to be necessary. Additional printed materials are available in our basement level resource room. Upon request, pastors and/or trained individuals will be available to pray with those who feel they want and/or need to have pastoral care conncected with prayer.

Prayer Partners...

Would you like to personalize and deepen your prayer experience? "Assistants in Prayer" are members of Holy Cross who are available on Sunday mornings to respond to personalized prayer requests. They also have devoted personal time to praying for those listed on our prayer concerns list (above).

Prayer Shawls...

Members of our congregation knit prayer shawls for specific prayer requests which are then dedicated at a worship service. To request a shawl or blanket for a specific person in need or to learn more about the knitting group or donating a shawl for blessing, please email the office staff at office@holycrosschurch.org.
